Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Benadryl the Right Medicine For Hives All Over The Body?
I have been having hive breakouts chronically from head to toe literally for one month straight. nothing seems to help... I tried taking the over the counter benadryl, at first the itching and burning subsided yet it was only temporary. What recommendations do you have?
Brief Answer: Yes, Benedryl is commonly prescribed for allergies and hives.
Detailed answers: Hives are generally causes by allergy to certain substances like dust, medicines or food items like peanuts, some pulses. I would recommend taking a bath with cold water to relieve the itching and burning along with Benedryl. Also look for any substance that may be causing this reaction like certain food items, or dust. If these measures do not help, i recommend consulting with a Rheumatologist or Allergist.
Hope this answers your question, Thank you
